To modify link shortening preferences and create a custom domain for short links in our software, follow these steps:
STEP 1:
Go to 'Manage DNS' in the domain settings at your domain provider's website (ex. GoDaddy)
In the Domain Records section, click 'Add' to add a record
Select 'Cname' in the list of record types to add
For the Name, enter 'go' if you wanted go.yourdomain.com as your short link or whatever you would like to use
Enter rfr.bz in the 'Points to' or 'Value' field
Choose the shortest time period for TTL. For example, GoDaddy allows as little as 600 seconds. (This is the amount of time you must wait before adding your Custom Domain to your software account)
NOTE: Cloudflare users: make sure to turn off proxying for the Cname record. If you use Groove Pages, they use Cloudflare, so go to Cloudflare directly to setup your domain versus doing it within Groove Pages.
Save your changes and wait for the length of time that you selected for the TTL above before proceeding to Step 2 or your custom domain will not function and you'll need to contact our customer support team.
STEP 2:
Go to the top right corner and select "Workspace Preferences."
Scroll down to find the "Link Shortening" section.
Here, you'll see an option labeled "Shorten and track all shared links." You can toggle this option to turn off link shortening altogether if you prefer not to use it. Keep in mind that turning this off will disable tracking for various activities, including social media posts and viral sweepstakes.
If you want to create a custom domain for short links, check if this option is available based on your plan. If it's locked, reach out to your account manager to unlock it.
Once you have access, select the option to create a custom domain.
Enter https://go.yourdomain.com or whatever custom domain you created in Step 1. Exclude "www" and any other subdomains.
Wait 10 more minutes and it will be ready to test. Go send a social post and check the link in the post. If there is an issue, contact support right away.
By setting up a custom domain for short links, you can enhance branding and improve the appearance of your shortened URLs. Additionally, you can track click-through activity more effectively.
